What Is Baptism?
Baptism is a gift from God that symbolizes our relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is the next step after someone has trusted in Christ. Baptism is a public declaration of repentance and forgiveness — not because the water saves us, but because Jesus does. Forgiveness comes through faith in Him. Baptism is simply the outward sign of the inward transformation that has already taken place.
When someone is baptized, it symbolizes dying to the old life and rising to new life in Christ. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we are forgiven, restored, and reconciled to God. Baptism celebrates that new beginning.
In the New Testament, John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus by calling people to repentance and baptizing those who believed (Mark 1:4). Today, Christian baptism continues to represent cleansing from sin and new life through faith in Jesus Christ.
If you have placed your trust in Jesus, baptism is your next step.
